Connie recently retired from teaching at ACGC. She has taught Communications and History in Ada, MN, Mason City, IA, Willmar and ACGC. Besides regular classroom teaching she has taught Adult Basic Education and Alternative Learning. As a newbie (1 year) to the Atwater Area Help for Seniors board, she has taken on the role of Fundraising Chairman, plus helps with transportation and Meals on Wheels.
Jim is a retired businessman and has been in the Atwater area since 1976. He has served on the Atwater Area Help for Seniors board for many years. Jim has also been active in the Atwater community as a long-time Lion’s Club member and has been on the board of St. John Church.
Bob is currently Chairman of Cattail Bancshares, Inc., which owns Harvest Bank and Citizens State Bank of Waverly and has been a banker since 1977. Prior to that he earned a PhD in European History at the University of MN and taught for a number of years. Bob has been on the AAHfS board for 2 years.
Carolyn (who also answers to her nickname of Tudy) is a retired RN. Her last employment for 32 years was at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, working in the Operating Room. Her husband of 49 years is Larry and they have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Carolyn enjoys being with her grandkids, gardening, and visiting with friends. Carolyn has served on AAHfS board for 3 years.
Connie has a degree in Social Work and her passion is for Developmentally Disabled and Seniors. She has worked in both fields, most of her life. She has been serving on the Atwater Area Help for Seniors Board for 4 years and has met many great people in the community.
Sandy became a nurse when she graduated from high school. She started her career as an LPN, then became an RN. She worked in a small hometown hospital initially, a nursing home in Willmar and retired from Willmar Regional Treatment Center, working for the State of MN for 33 years. She serves on the board for Kandiyohi-Renville Public Health, and on their advisory committee. She became a member of the board for the Atwater Area Help for Seniors in December 2014. These organizations each contribute to her passion to promote improved mental health. “As we ‘boomers’ age, the need to keep seniors in their homes as long as safely possible will continue to be a challenge.”
Pastor Christian Strickland
Christian Strickland has been a pastor at St. John Lutheran and a member of the Atwater community for over 9 years. One of his favorite parts of being a pastor is visiting with those who are not able to get out of the house. This provides him with an opportunity to visit on a one-on-one basis. He and his wife, Cynthia, have three kids. Pastor Christian has served on the AAHfS board for 4 years.
Deb started at AAHfS in September 2015. Her background is working with elderly in assisted living settings and with people with developmental/intellectual disabilities. Deb is active on the Rec and Leisure committee for AIM, and in her church as a puppet leader and coordinator for Sisters at Heart women’s group. She enjoys time with family and friends and outdoor activities.
Matt is a financial advisor and a part of our finance committee. He has been a member of our board since 2014. A goal/dream of Matt’s is to get an Atwater Area Foundation set up to support local non-profits such as ours.
Lori started at AAHFS in August of 2016. She worked in web marketing for Marketing Concepts in Spicer for 21 years. After a short break Lori took a temporary job working for a law office in Willmar and then had the opportunity to become the Volunteer Coordinator for AAHfS! Being a part of our senior community has been a very wonderful opportunity to enjoy and learn from our community members!
